Council House: It was around tables like these that numerous treaties were negotiated between the US and the Plains Indian tribes. These treaties allowed Europeans to open up trade in furs that changed the region's history. The fort eventually became a victim of changing patterns of settlement and travel. New forts were needed further west and south, and it was abandoned in 1827. Note: this panorama does not go around the entire room.
